The basic composition has been laid in in pencil and some paint has been applied as color fields.

The rocks and water below the foreground boulder have been painted in. Almost all the gesso has been covered, although you can see how it shines through the glazes in the lighter areas helping to create depth.

Here is the finished "Drawing From Life" fine art oil painting, loaded with hidden imagery.

After the painting is varnished all the colors deepen and become richer. A similar effect can be seen by wetting a rock to bring out the colors in it.
